Black People Can't Have Everything!

Image
Sinners. The best movie of 2025. A beautiful story of Black resilience, music, culture, history, trailblazing, and vampires. It broke countless records at box offices and had the most nominations of all time for a single film. It won four Oscars: Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Original Screenplay (Ryan Coogler), Best Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw), and Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson).      As someone who saw the movie twice in cinemas and probably another four more times at home, it is fair to say that I love this movie. When my friend and I went to see it for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't know it was a horror movie (so the first 5 minutes had my heart racing and some popcorn on the floor) and did not think it would make me emotional in any way. It actually was not a movie I was looking forward to seeing; I have no idea why, considering how much I love the movie now. Well befo...

Solo Travel Diaries: Crossing the Ocean

Image
In August 2025, some friends of my family had announced that they would be moving back to Germany for a year. In telling us this, they also extended an invitation to come and visit them. I had been working two jobs the whole summer, and the second they offered, I began to plan how I could make it happen.      Jumping ahead to the end of November, I had fully committed to making my trip to Germany a reality. I am not sure when I had decided that it would be something I did alone, but I was looking for plane tickets every chance I got in between studying for exams. On December 4th, I had booked my first international flight. Ticket for one: round trip to Frankfurt, Germany.      As the months shortened into weeks and the weeks into days, it was settling in that I would finally be going to Europe. I will wholeheartedly admit that I have been jealous of my family because they had all been to Europe before me, but I can say that my first time...

The Death of Creativity

Image
In this digital age, I find that everything is recycled. From TV shows to book plots to trending videos, we have all seen it before. We are often unable to come up with something new, and I hate how aware of it I am. In my own work, no matter how hard I try or how original I try to make something, it has been done before. Even in making this post, it was not an original idea that I thought to discuss.     Creative originality has been done in recent movies like Sinners and Mickey 17, but it is so rare to see something like that come out in the past ten years. There is more commonly a theme of rehashing old ideas. Why do we need a Toy Story 5, or a Moana 2, or a live-action version of anything? Why not instead make something new? Big corporations are failing to try and make something new. The same goes for music, as artists sample songs over and over again. There are only so many notes, just as there are only so many words and so many ways you can twist a plo...

My 2026 Vision Board

Image
(all pictures are from Pinterest)      Usually when I make a resolution for the new year, it stays in my head. Maybe I tell a few people about it, but it is never something that I write down so that I remember it. By the third week of January, it is forgotten, and I go about my year like no intentions were ever set. The most I've done was that I made a Pinterest board, stuck a bunch of the pictures together, and made it my laptop's lock screen. The problem with that is that I don't ever actively stare at my wallpaper, so it was, yet again, forgotten.     The most accountable thing I can think of doing is writing it all down here so that when I look back at the end of 2026, I can see if I really followed through with anything I set out to do. I am really hoping that at least one thing on this list reaches a full year's worth of commitment. I would settle for even half the year. So, here are my goals for 2026! 1. Consistently Posting   ...
